Located at the heart of the historic town of Guildford, the RGS dates its foundation from 1509, and the architectural heart of the school has remained unchanged for over four hundred years.
Continuous development means that the school is now very well equipped and resourced. There are excellent on-site facilities for Sport, including a sports hall, all weather training area, fitness suite and shooting range in addition to the outstanding off-site sporting facilities at Bradstone Brook. More recent developments include new Art and Music facilities and Sixth Form Centre.
The ethos of the school combines a pride in its history with a purposeful and forward-looking attitude to a fully-rounded education. RGS Boys are thoroughly prepared to face the challenges of the 21st Century.
The school has earned a national reputation for academic excellence since it became independent in 1977. It is now regarded as one of the country’s foremost independent schools. The curriculum is both broad and flexible, and boys are encouraged to think independently and to follow their own research interests. Particular emphasis is also placed on the development of each boy’s character and intellect and the school aims to support him in his growth towards adulthood. To this end, much emphasis is placed on the wide range of sporting, cultural and social activities which complement the academic curriculum.
Means tested Bursaries are available, as well as competitive Academic, Music, Art and Sports Scholarships. Please contact the Registrar to discuss these possibilities further.
