Welcome to the Tormead Parents’ Association (TPA) section of the website. I hope that you will find this section a useful source of information; who we are, what we do, services we provide and events we run. If you have any suggestions for improvements to the site, or would like to get involved please do contact any member of the Committee.

Who we are…

All parents automatically become members of the association for which there is currently a voluntary subscription. The Committee consists of the Officers (the Chair, the Treasurer, and the Secretary) and all Class Representatives. Additionally the Head of the Junior Department and a representative from the Senior School staff also sit on the Committee. Officers are elected for a two-year term.

Chair - Helen Jefferies [ helenjefferies@yahoo.com ] elected in October 2007 – Helen’s daughter is in year 5 and in her third year at Tormead.

Treasurer – Ruth Kirby, [ ruth.kirby@dersy.com ] elected in October 2006. Ruth’s daughter is in year 4 and in her second year at Tormead.

Secretary – Kim Jany, [ kimjany@btopenworld.com ] elected in February 2008. Kim’s daughter is in year 6 and in her fourth year at Tormead.

We have one or two representatives from most classes in the school. Class rep details are published on the Parents’ section of the website, alternatively, please contact any member of the committee who will put you in touch.

What we do...

Our main aim is to foster a sense of community at Tormead whilst raising funds for the school. Our fundraising is focussed on “value added” items which are of benefit to the majority of pupils. We contribute a percentage of our profits to charities chosen each year by the girls. This year we are supporting Orbis (saving sight worldwide); Wings of Hope (funding pupils at schools in India and Malawi); and Marfan Association UK (youth work section).

In October 2007 we drew up a questionnaire so that parents could tell us what they wanted from the TPA. We are currently collating the results which we will publish at the end of term.

How we work…

We have a minimum of one meeting each term; details of the dates are in the blue book and are posted on the website. The next meeting is planned for 7th May 2008. Any parent is welcome to attend.

We run one big event each term, and tend to have an informal sub-committee for each event. Any parent who has a particular interest in helping to organise these events is welcome to join the sub-committees.

Our next event is the Spring Ball which takes place on 26th April 2008. Tickets for this have now sold out.

Our 2008 Cracker Fair will take place on 29th November 2008.

Services…

We facilitate the sale of second-hand uniform by organising sales and maintaining a stock list which is on the TPA section of the website.

We also organise match teas for home fixtures and support the school on open mornings for prospective parents.

In the near term we plan to develop our pages on the website.

If you would like to get involved, please do contact Helen Jefferies either by email to helenjefferies@yahoo.com or by phone on 07801 367609.
