The Junior Department is keen to ensure the girls have an understanding and appreciation of community and charity. To this end, each half term there will be either a whole school or house charity event. The girls learn about the chosen charity and the reasons for a fund raising event. On the day, the girls are usually involved in something a little ‘wild and whacky’ to raise money for the needy cause. Events have recently included a Ceilidh in aid of ‘Children in Need’, ‘Funky Footwear Friday’ in aid of Surrey Air Ambulance, Red Nose Day and a ‘Change Chain’ in aid of Meningitis research.

We are also always looking for ways in which the girls might be of service to the local community. We held a Harvest Festival with our food donations going, via the Salvation Army, to local people in Guildford. The Year 5 and 6 girls have sung at local residential homes for the elderly and many participated in the Samaritan 'Operation Christmas Child ' when they brought in a Christmas shoe box, full of presents, to be sent to a child less fortunate than those who attend Tormead.
