Sport is a key part of each girl’s week in Tormead Junior Department. The girls from Pre-prep upwards enjoy lessons taught by specialist games, gymnastics and swimming teachers. Pre-Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 enjoy one games and one gymnastics lesson a week. From Year 3, swimming is added to the girls’ schedule. The extra-curricular programme for sport is extensive.

The girls enjoy a broad and balanced curriculum which includes:
- Netball
- Hockey
- Swimming
- Dance
- Gymnastics
- Tag rugby
- Athletics
- Tennis
As with all extra-curricular activities, where possible, they are run so that, at some point during the week, there will be a sporting activity you can join, regardless of your ability. Then at a different time during the week, there will be a separate activity to take those more able girls to a higher standard. For example, there is a Year 4, 5 and 6 Hockey Club on a Tuesday Lunchtime (all welcome) and then a Year 5 and 6 team practice (by invitation) on a Friday after school.
This ethos leads to almost every girl, during the week, being involved in at least one extra-curricular sporting activity and for many this is an almost daily event. We enjoy success at local, county and national level. We are currently U10 National Biathlon Champions, have numerous individual and team Girls Schools' Association Gymnastics (GISGA) Champions, four county tumbling champions and an U10 national qualifying swim team - to name but a few of our successes.
Such concentration!
