The JCS Performing Arts centre was 'alive with music' on the two evenings of Thursday 13th and Friday 14th March. The Junior Department had taken over and were staging their annual formal music concert. This was their first foray into the JCS Building. 130 girls from Years 3 to 6, with respective instruments and various costumes, began to assemble ready for action. The auditorium filled up quickly as parents waited in anticipation. Violins, 'cellos and guitars were being tuned in one area, whilst flutes, saxes and a trumpet were being assembled in another! Seven o'clock arrived and both girls and staff swung seamlessly into action.

The theme running through several of the items was that of 'Witches and Wizards'. Girls, whether playing in the orchestras or singing in the various choirs, sported sparkly witches' hats and glittering cloaks. The occasional spider or black cat could also be seen.

There were several ensemble groups performing during the evening, as well as the Training Orchestra, the Orchestra, the Junior Jazz Band, the Junior Choir, the Choir and the Chamber Choir.

The evening ended with every girl on stage. The Orchestra played and on cue, the girls burst into a rousing rendition of 'Rule Britannia'. The chorus was accompanied by a sea of waving Union Jacks and both the girls and the audience did justice to Thomas Arne's composition.

Our thanks must go to Mrs Vega, who oversees the music within the Junior Department and leads the Orchestras and Choirs. A marvellous evening was had by all.
