Tormead School has won Surrey Young Enterprise's Best Company of 2008 award!

Keith Robson, director of research and enterprise at the University of Surrey, presented the trophy to the girl entrepreneurs who beat the cream of Surrey companies to take the award.

The university is a key supporter of Surrey Young Enterprise and has hosted the competition for the past four years.

More than 70 student companies from Surrey schools participated in this year's Young Enterprise Company Programme and competed against each other in previous heats which took place across the business charity's three areas.

Each company created a product or service, sold shares, raised capital and set out to make a profit, as with any commercial company.

Judges Louise Punter, chief executive of Surrey Chambers of Commerce, Steve Bright, group HR director of Detica, and Nigel Biggs of Surrey Enterprise Hub were impressed by Tormead's company, Veo's complete focus on their product and their plans to carry on the business at university.

Veo's sales of colourful customised notice boards for locker doors generated a profit of £1,147 for the company.  The girls used the school's technology department facilities to produce the product.

Steve Bright said "The Young Enterprise experience will be invaluable to all the finalists when they are interviewed for jobs in the future.  In the highly competitive world of work Young Enterprise provides a unique opportunity for today's students to gain personal experience while giving them the right elements to learn and succeed."

Veo will now represent Surrey in next month's South East Regional Finals in Horsham.
