The Eco-Committees of both Junior and Senior Schools have started working together towards the prestigious Eco-schools Green Flag Award. The award is a flagship of the Eco-schools programme that has a range of criteria that needs to be fulfilled. These include completing in-depth work on three of the nine Eco-school topics such as energy, waste and recycling, water and biodiversity. Also, sustainability must be embedded into the curriculum and that physical evidence such as monitoring data has to be collected and analysed to demonstrate the school’s progress. A key target that the Eco-Committee aims to do is to monitor energy usage and involving the whole school community in reducing our energy consumption. This target will help to reduce the school’s carbon footprint and to save money through reduced energy bills. Members of the Eco-Committees are ready to take on the green challenges ahead and aim to apply for the Green Flag Award during Summer Term 2012.
