Tormead Physicists buck the National Trend

Independent girls’ school head teachers have welcomed a new report out this week from the Institute of Physics (IOP) that shows girls from single sex schools are almost 2.5 times more likely to study Physics A Level than girls who attend co-ed schools (maintained sector)*.

At Tormead the figures are even higher, girls have always been encouraged to engage with science, each girl studies a rich and demanding diet of Physics, Chemistry and Biology from Year 7 to 11 and consequently the numbers choosing to study it at AS and A Level has been extremely healthy with on average 30% of girls taking Physics at AS and 21% continuing to complete the A Level course over the last 5 years.

In an all girls environment with no gender stereotyping to get in the way our girls have the opportunity to engage in academic risk taking and develop problem solving skills in their own way, have a look below and see what we mean!
