The Lower Sixth girls in Utopia, Radha, Iona, Jessica, Faye, Tilly and Alex, were invited to the House of Lords, to present their fundraising efforts to a panel of judges, including the author Sophie Kinsella and Lady Elizabeth Roberts.

The Wings of Hope Achievement Award was set up to support every child’s right to a free education, specifically for developing schools in India and Malawi. However, the sole challenge of Wings of Hope is not to just raise the most money, but to do so in the most innovative and enjoyable way possible.

During their participation in the Wings of Hope Award scheme, Utopia organising a Diwali themed cake sale, incorporating bright colours into the cakes for sale. During the lead up to Christmas, they created over 250 coned-shape sweetie bags and sold them at various Christmas fairs. Lastly, Utopia organised a two-day netball camp for younger girls aged 9-11, during which they shared their netball skills to help the younger girls improve all aspects of their game, making them more rounded netball players.

Utopia thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the Wings of Hope Award scheme, and feel “incredibly grateful to have been given the opportunity to raise money for such a worthy cause.”

The Wings of Hope vision is a world in which every child has the right to a free education. Through their charitable international school projects, they are working towards the United Nations Millennium Development Goal to achieve universal primary school education. Their hope is to ensure that by 2015 children everywhere will be able to complete a full course of primary school education. To this end, the Wings of Hope Achievement Award (WOHAA) was established to give UK students the opportunity to fundraise for children less fortunate than themselves in both India and Malawi.

WOHAA is a win-win opportunity for students, designed to develop skills and nurture talents that will help them later in life. The WOHAA process gives them the perfect platform to target university and job applications as well as the world of work. WOHAA works with the support of some of the UK’s largest employers, including Boots, Saatchi and Saatchi, Tata Consultancy Services and Supreme Creations.
