Young Muslim Writers Award Winner

Imaan was shortlisted for the second time in the Young Muslim Writers Awards for Best Poem as well as Best Short Story. Her story was inspired by Mr South’s History lessons on slavery last year.

At Senate House, University of London, she learned she had won the Best Story for the second year in a row. The entries are all judged anonymously and the judges later said they could not believe a 14 year old had written the story!

Carnegie medal winner Tim Bowler was among the judges and presented Imaan with her trophy. She met Louis de Bernieres (author of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin) as well as Malala Yusufzai’s parents among others!

Many congratulations to Imaan.

Where next?
