Chess Champs!

The UK and Ireland Championships was held at Hinchley Wood School on Saturday. It comprises separate girls and boys championships in different age groups and Schools competitions based on the best four individual scores.

Tormead was represented by Catherine and Risha in the U7, Aashima and Emmie in the U8, Appoorvaa, Raina and Presleigh in the U9 and Élise and Felicity in the U10.

Everyone played their hardest and all won at least one game. Aashima and Appoorvaa won rosettes, Raina won a trophy and a medal for a perfect 15 out of 15. Élise and Felicity both scored 13 out of 13 to come joint first with another girl from Hertfordshire. Felicity won the trophy and a medal as she had the best “sum of progressives” with Élise winning a rosette and medal.

The Girls School competition ebbed and flowed as the rounds progressed but an excellent last round saw Tormead win first place just ahead of Tiffin Girls and Guildford High School with all the team winning medals and a trophy for the School.
