Class of 2017 celebrate a great set of A Level Results

Girls and staff are celebrating a very fine set of A Level results at Tormead today with one third of the girls achieving straight A*/A grades.

Seven subjects gained all A */A and 11 departments A*- B.

Mathematics, which is always our most popular A Level subject, scored an outstanding three quarters of grades at A*/A and 95% A*-B (with Further Maths 100% A*/A).

Headmistress Christina Foord commented, “It is always difficult for a cohort when an examination system changes. I am delighted, though not surprised, that the wonderful Class of 2017 has risen to the challenges of being guinea pigs in some subjects whilst seeing off the old approach in others. The girls and staff have done what Tormead does best – they simply got on with what needed doing.

The stellar results of our highest achievers and the overall standout statistic of 95% A* – C also encapsulates Tormead. With total free choice of subjects studied, girls have gained the grades they need to embark on their university careers – 95 % of applicants will be heading off this September to top universities which include Saint Andrew’s, Oxford, Birmingham, Durham, Bristol, Cambridge, Edinburgh and Newcastle to read a variety of subjects amongst them English, Engineering, Classics, History , Modern Languages, Physiotherapy, Drama, Economics and History of Art.

A particular highlight is that all 7 girls who applied for Veterinary Medicine (4) and Medicine (3) have been successful. I am immensely proud of them and wish them well”
