Tormead Old Girl in Engineering is Highly Commended as West London Apprentice of the Year 2020

Congratulations to Sophie Claesen, Tormead Old Girl – Class of 2018, who has been awarded Highly Commended West London Apprentice of the Year 2020 at the West London Business Awards held last week. We are very proud of her achievements as a woman in STEM, fulfilling her goal for a career in engineering.

Sophie won this accolade for her work as an Inspector at Martin-Baker Aircraft Company Ltd, a world leader in the design and manufacture of ejection and crashworthy seats for over 70 years, where she is currently in her second year of a mechanical engineering apprenticeship.

Sophie said, “I was pleased to receive this recognition from West London Business Awards 2020, as I enjoy my work at Martin-Baker immensely. Thank you to all of you for your support while I was at Tormead. I have learnt a lot so far in this apprenticeship, like how to accurately measure a component, and have progressed to using the large and expensive coordinate measurement machine.”

Where next?
