Tormead receives prestigious membership of HMC (The Heads’ Conference)

We are incredibly pleased to announce that, following an assessment of Tormead School, Mr David Boyd has been admitted as a member of The Heads’ Conference (HMC).

In April this year, we welcomed a team of Heads from The Heads’ Conference as part of our accreditation process.  During their visit, the team looked at each aspect of life at Tormead: from the quality of teaching and learning, to our pastoral care and safeguarding procedures, to the provision of our facilities for pupils. They also met with teachers, pupils, and parents, to ask them about our community and the education we provide. The feedback at the end of the visit was highly complimentary and a recommendation for membership was made.

HMC, established in 1869, is a professional Association of Heads of the world’s leading independent schools, with the vast majority of members being in the United Kingdom. It is the oldest and most influential association of its kind. Membership of the Conference has long been a hallmark of quality, innovation, and excellence in education, encompassing pastoral care, co-curricular provision, as well as classroom teaching and learning.

HMC membership gives Tormead access to a wide variety of training and professional development opportunities for staff, as well as providing the ability to develop national and international links with other HMC schools. As one of the leading associations for UK independent schools, it also speaks on behalf of the sector in relation to some of the key challenges facing education. It is to the benefit of the wider Tormead community that we contribute to those debates through our membership of HMC and the Girls’ Schools Association (GSA), the Association of leading UK girls’ schools, that we have been a member of for many years and continue to be part of.

This is a wonderful achievement for Tormead, which truly acknowledges the excellent education that we provide, and celebrates the contributions of our staff and pupils in making Tormead the outstanding school and community we are.
