Welcome to Sixth Form

Here at Tormead Sixth Form, you’ll be welcomed into a close-knit community within a friendly and supportive environment.

Sharing the first beaming smile with a Year 13 who has sent in an exceptional UCAS application is a privilege for which I am both always excited and grateful. This is because watching an inspiringly dedicated student send their excellent application to one of the country’s leading universities is a fantastic reminder of what Tormead Sixth Form does so well. The same is equally true for all degree apprenticeship applications and drama school auditions about which students excitedly run into the Sixth Form office to share the news that they have been offered. Each student’s success is individual and Tormead ensures it supports each learner on their unique journey.

At Tormead, there is no ‘typical Tormead graduate’ and nor is there a ‘typical Tormead’ future. Instead we work hard to make sure that we mould to the students’ needs and help them to find what really makes them tick. We firmly believe in the Sixth Form years as being a time where our students need cherishing as they learn how to access all the resources around them, to help them to start building their future, their way.

To facilitate this, the Sixth Form academic, enrichment and pastoral team take time to focus on each student’s individual needs and aims. This openness allows students to truly celebrate successes, seek continuous improvement and ensure their wellbeing is a priority.

Tormead Sixth Form has been made, by literally every brick, with our students in mind. Our exceptional new Sixth Form Centre, complete with lounge, lecture theatre, library, quiet and collaborative spaces and café, has ensured every student has a place of preference for different tasks and outcomes. This level of care and attention to detail has sprung from our prioritising knowing every Tormead Sixth Form student. A strong partnership between teachers, students and parents ensures that support is flexible depending on each student’s needs throughout their Sixth Form years.

Motivating our students to embrace all opportunities and challenges with a forward focused, reflective approach ensures they develop tenacity and resilience. Managing challenges and adapting to the unexpected is a vital part of teenagers’ education, so all opportunities ensure our students are fully supported as they develop their values and discover what makes them truly happy. Being part of developing that critical thinking is a privilege and I remember that every day as I coach each student through the part of their education for which I have the honour to oversee.
