Tormead is proud to be recognised as one of the UK’s leading schools for gymnastics. Our programme is led by a dedicated team of High Performance (Level 5) coaches, supported by an exceptional group of Level 3 and Level 2 coaches. All hold British Gymnastics qualifications across a wide range of disciplines, including women’s artistic, acrobatic, team gym, rhythmic, parkour, pre-school, and disability gymnastics.
Whether your daughter is looking to take part in gymnastics once a week for fun or is aspiring to become a national champion, we offer the expertise, encouragement, and environment to support every gymnast in reaching her full potential.
There are three groups within the co-curricular gymnastics programme; Participation, Development and National. All pupils who wish to participate in gymnastics are encouraged to do so and are allocated to the most appropriate group for their age and ability.

Our competition structure allows for competitive opportunities for pupils at all levels including friendly home and internal competitions for our core gymnasts, regional competitions for our academy gymnasts and national competition opportunities for our elite performance gymnasts. We compete in British Schools Gymnastics Association (BSGA) floor and vault, Milano and acrobatic gymnastics competitions as well as Independent Schools Gymnastics Association (ISGA) and Independent Association of Preparatory Schools (IAPS) 5-piece competitions.
A comprehensive record of our successes can be seen here: Hall of Fame.
Whether in Reception or Upper Sixth, every year the whole gymnastics community come together to perform in our Christmas Gymnastics Display in the Autumn term and compete in our internal competition, Tormead Championships in the Spring term. These events also see pupils in the upper school on our Gymnastics Coach in Training Programme prepare younger, Prep School gymnasts to perform/compete with their peers. Parents and supporters are all warmly welcomed to join us and enjoy mince pies and mulled wine or a hog roast.

When pupils enter Year 9, they have the opportunity to volunteer on our Coach in Training Programme. These pupils will be mentored by the senior coaching team to help teach the younger Prep pupils in weekly Core gymnastics lessons. They will be responsible for managing warm ups, aid in the teaching of fundamental gymnastics skills, learn to physically support basic gymnastics elements and help in preparation for Tormead Championships and the Christmas Gymnastics Display.
When coaches in training enter sixth form, they have the opportunity to be employed by the school as an assistant gymnastics coach gaining valuable work experience and being able to be remunerated for their efforts. Pupils will also gain valuable careers experience as they enter the school’s recruitment process where they apply and interview for their post.

Attend an Open Day Event
Tormead School is where girls thrive, thanks to our value-added education which focuses on each girl as an individual. Our latest ISI inspection in October 2024 commended our supportive and nurturing environment which enables pupils’ academic and emotional growth. We would be delighted to welcome you to one of our forthcoming Open Events to meet our Heads, David Boyd and Nicki Fry (Head of Prep School) and hear from our girls as they explain what they like best about Tormead.
