Tormead’s annual Spring House Sports Day took place on Thursday 26 March and proved to be a fantastic celebration of sport, teamwork and House spirit across the whole school community.
With activities taking place across both the main school site and Urnfield Sports Ground, pupils from all year groups were involved in a wide range of sports throughout the day. Events included netball, hockey, football, rowing and cycling, as well as gym and dance, table tennis, dodgeball and diamond cricket, ensuring there was something for everyone to enjoy and excel in.
The day began with House briefings before pupils moved swiftly into Session 1, where competition was immediately underway. A particular highlight was the introduction of new activities to the programme, which broadened participation and allowed even more pupils to contribute to their House’s success. Across the morning, and into Session 2, pupils demonstrated excellent organisation and enthusiasm as they moved between events, with strong levels of engagement across all activities.
Midday saw the whole school come together in the Sports Hall for an energetic cheerleading performance, followed by a well-earned lunch. The sense of House identity was evident throughout, with pupils proudly wearing their House colours and showing their support with positive encouragement from the sidelines.
In the afternoon, all pupils walked to Urnfield for the final stage of the competition. The atmosphere built as finalists competed in netball and hockey, alongside football fixtures for all year groups. The standard of play was excellent, with pupils demonstrating both skill and sportsmanship in equal measure.
The day concluded with a presentation trackside, celebrating individual and team successes, as well as recognising the overall House winners. It was a fitting end to a day that showcased not only competitive excellence, but also the inclusive and supportive sporting culture at Tormead.

Tormead School is where girls thrive, thanks to our value-added education which focuses on each girl as an individual. Our latest ISI inspection in October 2024 commended our supportive and nurturing environment which enables pupils’ academic and emotional growth. We would be delighted to welcome you to one of our forthcoming Open Events to meet our Heads, David Boyd and Nicki Fry (Head of Prep School) and hear from our girls as they explain what they like best about Tormead.
