Led by the Livingstone and MacArthur Houses, the Born Free Foundation charity day included a visit by David Bolton from the Foundation, who spoke to girls in both the Junior and Senior Schools’ assemblies about how the charity opposes the exploitation of wild animals in captivity and campaigns to keep them where they belong – in the wild. He also gave a gripping Beacon talk for the Upper School and Sixth Form on the ills of trophy hunting and informed the girls of the volunteering opportunities at the Born Free Foundation.

Adding to the excitement of the day, many Junior and Senior girls and staff were dressed as their favourite endangered animal. Other fund-raising activities included a Lion King flash mob dance in the atrium during lunchtime, various stalls with animal-related games, animal face painting, an art competition and sing-along screenings of The Lion King film complete with popcorn. The Born Free Foundation also ran a lunchtime stall – with its books, bags and cuddly versions of endangered animals on offer – which was particularly popular! Finally, the charity day was also supported by the The Percy Arms, Chilworth, who donated a weekend’s stay with dinner as a staff raffle prize.
