New Scholars’ Buffet

The New Scholars’ Buffet evening was a fantastic celebration of Tormead’s new academic, sport, music, drama and art scholars. Parents, scholars and teachers mingled in the atrium before sitting down to a delicious meal where families were able to get to know each other during the informal part of the evening. It was great to hear so many lively conversations!

After the dinner, we moved through to the hall where Mrs Price spoke about what it truly means to be a scholar at Tormead. This was, of course, accompanied by the mention of a certain snail, as well as amusing anecdotes about Miss Clayton, from whom Tormead’s Clayton scholars get their name. Scholars were then awarded their badges.

Following Mrs Price’s speech, we heard from our special guest speaker, Neil Redit OBE. Neil, a research and development engineer with the Ministry of Defence, spoke to us about the evolution of RADAR and its significance for the world we live in today. A particular area of interest was the Chain Home project, which was critical to the Allied victory in the Second World War. This concluded the evening, with parents and girls alike honoured to have been involved.
