Last Thursday, we held the Spring Concert where we said farewell to our Upper Sixth musicians. The night was filled with a range of music and celebrated all our groups, from The Rosen Band to Symphony Orchestra. The U6 students all had their opportunity to shine with a variety of solos.

In the first half of the concert, Emily led her newly created Brass Ensemble in a rallying rendition of the Pirates of the Caribbean theme. We enjoyed a clarinet solo from Charlotte, and her contribution to Jazz Band did not go unnoticed. Phoebe and Alison in Year 8 were the soloists in the Scholars’ String Ensemble, followed by the first vocal performance of the evening from Tormead Young Voices. Hannah treated us to an emotional performance of ‘My House’ from Matilda the Musical – there wasn’t a dry eye left in the house! Before the interval, Hannah, Charlotte and Emily joined Jazz Band in a much requested reprise from Jazz Night last week.

After the break, we were once again treated to the Percussion Ensemble who performed at our Christmas Concert. Emily further showed her variety of skills with a cornet solo, and then joined the Wind and Brass Scholars’ Ensemble, led by our very own Mrs Ward! Chamber Choir were next, with Ella wonderfully completing her solo in ‘Be Thou My Vision’ by Chilcott. An extremely dramatic version of ‘Skyfall’ by Adele from Tormead Vox had multiple soloists: Phoebe (U6), Rosie and Chloe (Year 9). This was received well by the audience – you could hear a pin drop at the end of the performance. Finally, Symphony Orchestra treated us to the 1st Movement of Haydn’s 104th Symphony.

Thank you to Mrs Ward, Mr Holford and all the peripatetic music staff for organising this send off for the U6 musicians. We will keep in touch!
