Tormead Awarded Eco-Schools Green Flag

Congratulations to our Eco-Committee who recently received the fantastic news that Tormead has been awarded the Eco-Schools Green Flag.

The Eco-Schools assessors felt that the committee’s action plan was well thought out and contained innovative and impactful ideas. They liked the committee’s ideas for developing our wellbeing garden into a combined wildlife garden and their suggestions for reducing portion sizes in the dining hall to cut down on food waste. They also commended the committee for their practical and fun curriculum examples which gave Tormead pupils the opportunity to learn about important environmental issues as well as the chance to work on these issues.

The committee was commended for having an Eco-Code that is “positive, inclusive and uplifting and a fitting tribute to your Eco-Schools journey”. They were also praised for their use of a variety of methods to keep the school community updated on their progress, from a virtual Eco-Board to newspaper articles.

In thanking the committee for submitting such a terrific application, the assessors highlighted that by providing environmental training opportunities for staff, the school “has demonstrated its commitment to environmental education, equipping teachers with the knowledge needed to confidently discuss sustainability with young people and seamlessly integrate these critical issues into their curriculum”.

Well done to the Eco-Committee and Miss Hanlon for all your hard work!

“We have loved reading about your journey and are incredibly impressed by all you have achieved along with your focus, creativity, and determination. We have no hesitation in awarding you an Eco-Schools Green Flag with Distinction.” – Eco-Schools
