    Deputy Head Teacher Prep School

    Tormead Prep School is currently seeking to appoint a dynamic and dedicated professional to the position of Deputy Head to join our thriving Prep School. This full-time permanent role encompasses a breadth of responsibilities critical to the ongoing success and progression of our school.  

    The Deputy Head, in partnership with the Head Teacher, is central to shaping the school’s ethos and vision. Collaborating with a diverse team, including senior leaders from both the Senior and Prep schools, as well as teaching and support staff, effective communication is crucial. The Deputy Head must naturally foster a positive team spirit. An approachable and empathetic leadership style is essential in contributing to an encouraging atmosphere for both pupils and colleagues at the Prep.  

    Exceptional organisational skills are vital for handling the administration and operational aspects of this role. The Deputy Head will be responsible for written daily briefings to ensure timely communication with all Prep staff for the smooth day-to-day running of the school. 

    Additionally, the Deputy Head will be responsible for pastoral and well-being matters and must prove to be outstanding in nurturing a supportive environment within the school. Working alongside the Designated Safeguarding Lead in the Senior School, the Deputy Head will be lead DSL in the Prep.

    Due to the ongoing success of the Mathematics department and the uptake of Mathematics and Further Mathematics at A level, we are pleased to find ourselves in a position to recruit for an experienced teacher of Mathematics, capable of delivering A Level Further Mathematics. The current department includes 4 full-time and 2 part-time teachers. Teaching in the Mathematics department is lively and successful, and girls achieve high standards at all levels.

    Girls are set for Mathematics from the age of 11 and are taught in five or six divisions for each year group. In Years 7, 8 and 9, girls follow a curriculum that has been developed within the school and which takes account of the requirements of the National Curriculum. In Years 10 and 11, the Edexcel iGCSE is followed, and all girls enter the examination at the Higher Tier. The top two sets also study AQA Level 2 Certificate in Further Mathematics. A very high proportion of girls stay on into the Sixth Form and Maths and Further Maths are a popular choice at A level. Girls follow the Edexcel syllabus, taking modules in Pure Mathematics, Mechanics and Statistics, and Core Pure Mathematics, Further Mechanics and either Further Statistics or Decision Maths for Further Mathematics.

    Mathematics can contribute to many aspects of the curriculum and the department aims to have good links with other subject areas. We also aim to make full use of the school’s ICT facilities. Girls take part in the national UK challenges and in locally organised competitions.

    Head of Estates & Facilities

    Tormead School is an academically selective independent school for 850 girls aged 4–18, located in central Guildford. 

    We are seeking to appoint an experienced Head of Estates & Facilities to join our team from Summer 2024.  Reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations, this is a senior post on our support staff and one that plays a key role in the strategic development of the Estate, alongside responsibility for all aspects of the operational management of the site. 

    The post holder will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive maintenance programs, overseeing building work and projects, and ensuring that the site is safe, functional, and maintained to high standards, as well as the management of facilities contracts, services and lettings.  They will lead and manage our dedicated and professional Estates team, providing guidance, training and support as needed and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and best practices. 

    The successful candidate will have proven experience in estates and facilities management, preferably in an educational setting and strong leadership and management skills.  Candidates will have a proactive and collaborative approach, and the ability to communicate with colleagues, contractors and other stakeholders.

    Development Officer

    Salary – £30K

    We are looking to appoint a Development Officer to join the growing Development and Alumnae Department within the School. Supporting the Deputy Head (External Relations), the Development Officer will help to roll out and promote a new fundraising programme across the entire school community in support of bursary awards. They will identify prospective donors, lead on annual giving initiatives and record and steward donations that are received in the school database.

    Management, promotion, and growth of the new regular giving programme would also be required as well as providing the School’s finance department with relevant information on ad hoc donations and gift aid acceptance. Maintenance of gift acceptance records would also be necessary.

    Experience of the ToucanTech database or similar would be needed as well as a background in planning and organising events and marketing initiatives with the aim of strengthening the School’s philanthropic endeavours and expanding its range of events for the wider school community and its stakeholders.

    This is an exciting opportunity to develop a role within a vibrant and supportive team. Working closely with Admissions and Marketing and with the support of an additional part-time Development Officer, this role would suit a candidate with a strong work ethic and positive, can-do attitude.
