    Teacher of Economics

    Full Time 

    January 2023 or sooner

    We are seeking an inspirational teacher of Economics to join this thriving and well-established department. The successful candidate will be well-qualified and energetic, building on the strengths of the department to develop new and exciting initiatives. We are seeking a January 2023 start or sooner if possible.

    Economics is currently taught in the Sixth Form as a linear A-level and the department currently uses the AQA Economics syllabus. The course is very applied in its analysis of micro and macro-economic theories, to resolve current economic issues.

    There is a healthy cohort of students who opt to study A Level Economics on a regular basis, and it is not unusual for there to be two sets within a year group. Students achieve high grades with several choosing to continue their studies in Economics, PPE, Management, and Finance at leading Russell Group universities.

    The ability to teach Business is desirable, but not essential, and there may be the opportunity to lead an expansion of the department in the future.

    The post will suit an ambitious teacher looking to develop her/his career.

    Maths Teacher

    Fixed Term Contract – 1 Year

    We are currently seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced Teacher of Maths on a Fixed Term Contract for One Year.

    The current department includes 4 full-time and 3 part-time teachers. Teaching in the Mathematics department is lively and successful, and girls achieve high standards at all levels.

    Girls are set for Mathematics from the age of 11 and are taught in five or six divisions for each year group. In Years 7, 8 and 9, girls follow a curriculum that has been developed within the school and which takes account of the requirements of the National Curriculum. In Years 10 and 11, the Edexcel GCSE is followed, and all girls enter the examination at the Higher Tier. A very high proportion of girls stay on into the Sixth Form and Maths and Further Maths are a popular choice at A level. Girls follow the Edexcel syllabus, taking modules chosen from Pure Mathematics, Mechanics, and Decision Maths for Further Mathematics.

    Mathematics can contribute to many aspects of the curriculum and the department aims to have good links with other subject areas. We also aim to make full use of the school’s ICT facilities. Girls take part in the national UK challenges and in locally organised competitions.

    Visiting Drum & Percussion Teacher

    Required September 2022

    We are looking to appoint a Visiting Drum & Percussion Teacher (VMT) to join our exceptional school. 

    Orchestral Percussion and Drum Kit are instruments in which we are keen to invest as a Music Department.  There is currently approximately one morning’s teaching, which includes the running of new Lower School and Upper School Percussion Groups, to be launched in September 2022.  The ideal candidate will be dynamic and keen to inspire and grow the number of percussion players within the Prep and Senior schools with the support of the Director of Music and other departmental teaching staff.

    The successful applicant will be an experienced and enthusiastic Teacher who can teach across all styles. They will have the initiative and ability to inspire and motivate pupils, building on the successes of our department and contributing to its further development. They will work with pupils across the Prep and Senior Schools and will be comfortable teaching from beginner to advanced level.

    Physics Technician

    Full Time

    Required September 2022

    We are currently seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Physics Technician is sought to support the work of the Physics Department.

    The working hours will be 8.00am to 4.30pm term time plus INSET days and one week in the holidays.

    The Physics Technician supports the teaching of Physics by ensuring materials and equipment are set out in the laboratory at the start of lessons and safely cleared away after lessons. The Physics Technician works closely with the Head of Physics, Physics Teachers and other Science Technicians to maintain and develop the rich, high standard of Physics provision at Tormead.

    The successful candidate will be/have:

    • An interest in science and technical matters
    • willing to, and have an aptitude for, undertaking minor electrical (low voltage) and mechanical repairs and constructing demonstration apparatus

    Physics Technician JD 2022

     

    Learning Support Assistant

    Full Time

    September 2022

    We are seeking to appoint a Learning Support Assistant to work on a 1-1 basis with a pupil in the Senior School.

    The Learning Support Assistant role will be to support the health, educational and social needs of a pupil with complex medical diagnoses.

    The LSA will foremost be supporting the physical and medical needs of the pupil to maintain health, prevent injury and support independence as the pupil develops through adolescence. The LSA will assist the pupil to access the curriculum, participate in learning and experience a sense of achievement in school life.

    The successful candidate would need to undergo appropriate training in provision of the pupil’s medical and health and safety needs.

    We are looking to appoint a Visiting Piano Teacher (VMT) to join our exceptional school. 

    The successful applicant will be an experienced and enthusiastic Piano Teacher who will have the initiative and ability to inspire and motivate pupils, building on the successes of our department and contributing to its further development.  They will work with pupils across the Prep and Senior Schools and will be comfortable teaching from beginner to advanced level.
