    We are seeking an innovative and inspirational Director of Science to deliver and support outstanding teaching and learning at Tormead.

    The Director of Science will be an outstanding leader, with a strong commitment to ensuring that all pupils within science achieve excellent examination results (from a value-added perspective) and develop a lifelong interest in and love of the Sciences.

    The Director of Science will lead, and line manage, experienced colleagues who are working together to create a stimulating teaching and learning environment and is responsible for driving forward the strategic direction of the three Science departments. Each Science has its own Head of Department who is responsible for his/her own department including the staff, curriculum delivery and budget and the Director of Science is line managed by the relevant member of the senior leadership team.

    The Director of Science leads the overall direction of the three departments: Biology, Chemistry and Physics, co-ordinating the development of co-curricular science activities, academic enrichment opportunities and outreach activity with local partner schools.

    The person in this role is responsible for setting out an ambitious vision for the delivery of high-quality science education at Tormead, that includes the continued growth in numbers of girls taking science A-Levels, across all three subjects and then onwards to science-based university courses. We want the strength of our science departments at Tormead to be one of the key reasons that young people choose to apply to our school at all levels of entry, including Sixth Form.

    English Teacher

    Permanent – Full-Time

    Are you enthusiastic about all aspects of English and keen to inspire our pupils?

    If so, come and join our team, which consists of 7 full-time teachers who work collaboratively to provide the highest quality teaching and support for the students. Emphasis is placed on providing staff with as much autonomy as possible in terms of teaching style and text choices, whilst the sharing of good practice and resources is a primary focus. There is also a continuous programme of staff training (both INSET and external courses). In addition to a dedicated department office and classrooms, the Department enjoys access to IT and interactive whiteboards. The school also fosters the use of iPads for the benefit of both staff and students.

    The department is highly successful and well-respected by the student body. We achieve excellent outcomes for students and our retention to A Level is superb.  All teachers in the Department are expected to teach across the 11-18 age range; typically, class sizes range from 20 to 24 students in Years 7-11 and 8-12 in the Sixth Form. We do not set in English at KS3 and have one smaller set for those who we deem needing extra support at GCSE. The rest of the GCSE sets are mixed ability.  Students are prepared for the Edexcel IGCSE English Language and the Edexcel IGCSE English Literature and Edexcel A2 in English Literature.

    The department has a varied extra-curricular calendar of events, including writing competitions and external events for pupils and parents in celebration of National Poetry Day and World Book Day. We invite famous authors and poets and RSC actors into the school to lead workshops. We take theatre trips and run a KS3 book group and creative writing club. We also run the New Views Playwriting course by the National Theatre.

    Head of Biology 2023 job description

     

    Physics Teacher

    We are seeking to appoint, a strong honours graduate to teach Physics.  This post would equally suit someone who is looking to start a career in the subject, or someone who already has some experience in the profession. The successful candidate will teach classes in Physics from years 7 to 13 in a lively and ambitious Department, as well as taking a full part in the life of this busy and friendly school.

    We are looking for an energetic character who can effectively communicate their enthusiasm for Physics and bring some humour as well as subject knowledge with them. The successful candidate will have an excellent knowledge of, and a real enthusiasm for Physics and is likely to hold a good honours degree in Physics (or related subject).

    They will be self-motivated and will relish the challenge presented by being part of a forward-thinking Department. A commitment to students, the department, and the wider life of the school, plus a firm grasp of curricular developments are important as are empathy, being well-organised, a sense of humour and the ability to enhance the department’s delivery and development of Physics.

    Pastoral Support Officer

    Tormead School is seeking to appoint a Pastoral Support Officer to join our Wellbeing Team.

    Our Pastoral Support Officer will play a key role in contributing to the care within our Wellbeing Centre, being the first port of call for pupils who drop in for emotional support. The postholder will work closely with the Assistant Head (Wellbeing and Transition) and the Wellbeing team to enhance, protect, promote, develop, and care for the mental health, wellbeing, and pastoral needs of pupils within our school. This is a frontline role supporting and working with our pupils.

    Pastoral Support Officer Job Description 2023

     

    HR Manager

    Tormead School is an academically selective school for nearly 790 girls aged 4 – 18, located in central Guildford.

    We are looking for an experienced HR Manager to join the School at an exciting time in its evolution, as we continue to deliver our ambitious plans for growth.  

    Reporting to and working closely with the Bursar, the HR Manager is a senior support staff role leading the HR operations at the school. Supported by an HR Officer, the key responsibilities of the role will include HR strategy and policy, operational HR, recruitment, HR reporting and employee relations. The post holder will provide advice and guidance to line management as needed, and will be responsible for contracts of employment and preparation of the monthly payroll.

    Salary and Benefits: up to £45k-£55k per annum, depending on experience; 5 weeks’ annual leave plus Bank holidays and the Christmas closure period; parking on site; free lunch when school is in session, free use of school gym.

    Hockey Coach JD 2023

    Full-Time – Hybrid Working Opportunity

    Salary – £30K

    Tormead School are looking to appoint a Development Officer to join the growing Development and Alumnae Department within the School. Supporting the Deputy Head (External Relations), the Development Officer will help to roll out and promote a new fundraising programme across the entire school community in support of bursary awards. They will identify prospective
    donors, lead on annual giving initiatives and record and steward donations that are received in the school database.

    Management, promotion and growth of the new regular giving programme would also be required as well as providing the School’s finance department with relevant information on ad hoc donations and gift aid acceptance. Maintenance of gift acceptance records would also be necessary.

    Experience of the ToucanTech database or similar would be needed as well as a background in planning and organising events and marketing initiatives with the aim of strengthening the School’s philanthropic endeavours and expanding its range of events for the wider school community and its stakeholders.

    This is an exciting opportunity to develop a role within a vibrant and supportive team. Working closely with Admissions and Marketing and with the support of an additional part-time Development Officer, this role would suit a candidate with a strong work ethic and positive, can-do attitude. You will need the ability to build relationships with colleagues, parents and alumnae, and have outstanding organisational and administrative skills.
