International Women’s Day

We were delighted to be in collaboration with iamtheCODE, on International Women’s Day 2022.

Today’s International Women’s Day assembly was a truly international event as we were joined live by girls from Niger, Kenya, Brazil, Madagascar and Nepal, brought together by our inspiring guest speaker, Lady Marieme Jamme.

Lady Marieme is the founder and Chief Sustainability Officer of iamtheCODE.org, the first African led initiative to encourage girls to learn to code.

Leading this global programme, which has now worked with 28,000 girls, in 70 countries, in some of the world’s most marginalised communities it is easy to see why Lady Marieme has been a nominee for the BBC’s Top 100 women list.

Tormead has been proud to work with Lady Marieme and iamtheCODE.org for the last number of years and today a group of our Sixth Formers were busy compiling a podcast to add to the resources for the girls that the programme works with.

It was a real privilege to hear the powerful message from Marieme that we can all be positive agents of change in the world – something that we hope inspired our girls and those listening around the globe on this special international day, celebrating women.
