National Poetry Day

Students at Tormead celebrated National Poetry Day in style last week. This year’s theme was ‘Refuge’, a topic that proved rich for discussion and creativity. Ms Walker ran an enrichment session for students to enjoy a variety of poems, to consider what, for them, constitutes refuge, and to contribute to a group poem. Throughout the day itself, Tormead’s Poetry Doctors in the English department prescribed a poem for each girl in the school to read, share and take home. There were food-themed poems in the Atrium, form time discussions, poetry lessons and the launch of the Tormead Poet of the Year competition (entries for which should be submitted to the English department by the Monday following half term). It was wonderful to offer such rich opportunities for thought, creativity and collaboration.
