Year 7 Gamelan Workshop

This week the Year 7 pupils had the opportunity to take part in a gamelan workshop run by world music specialists, Inspire Works. A gamelan is a group of gongs and metallophones from Indonesia. Year 7 are learning about Gamelan in their music curriculum this term. The gamelan sets are huge and the gamelan filled the JCS auditorium. This set was beautifully painted with lotus flowers to represent new life.

Pupils had the opportunity to try several of the gamelan instruments and learn the playing techniques associated with them. The big gong was definitely a favourite, with its beautiful, low -pitched sound that resonated right through you.
