Rotary Youth Debate

Last week a team of Tormead students from Years 7-13 took part in the first round of the Rotary International Youth Debate Public Speaking Competition. The students competed in the Senior Category against other Guildford schools and Sixth Form colleges including Guildford High, Prior’s Field and St Peter’s. Each three-person team prepared a 15-minute debate, split between the roles of Chair, Proposer and Opposer. Accompanied by Tormead Head, David Boyd, the event challenged and developed the students’ skills in public speaking and their ability to perform, persuade and entertain an audience with their display of knowledge of a topic.

Congratulations to Chloe, Elanna and Twisha, who won this first round debating the topic of  “Disney princesses: sometimes the slipper doesn’t fit”. It was an exciting evening for all those that took part, and we look forward to the next round.

Where next?
