Late this August, I had the pleasure of working with an amazing team of five Sixth Formers on their Gold expedition in Dartmoor. What impressed me most, was their ability to cope with whatever was thrown at them, with a smile and great resilience. Their arrival at the Princetown campsite was memorable. The rain was lashing against the minibus for the journey over the moors. We parked in a muddy lane, no one really wanted to get out and pitch a tent! The team were met by Polly and Jon from Dynamic Adventure, who inspired confidence and excitement for the team about the adventure ahead.

The following day, the expedition started. Routes were adapted and changed due to the poor weather and the possibility of thunderstorms. The team made it to camp and celebrated completing day 1. Rain, drizzle and low visibility on any higher ground was a constant feature of the next three days. Their highlight was the night spent wild camping; a real treat. On completion of the expedition, there was much excitement, all had passed. Jon and Polly from Dynamic Adventure were delighted with the students, giving excellent reports for their Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

All the students are looking forward to going to Buckingham Palace to be presented with their Gold Award. Well done to Zoe, Fleur, Isabella, Sophie, Freya!
